Our Magnolia is blooming vibrantly and much to the delight of the local bees. They are enjoying the feast of luscious pink flowers that are covering the tree right now. Typically a late frost will kill half of the flowers so we are super excited that our 80 degree March weather has been keeping the frost at bay.
I spend most of my days with my dear writer friend, Kim, who encouraged me to start this blog. Since I have done little creative writing in my time, I am intrigued by this idea that you start to write and the story just evolves and you don't necessarily know where it is going or what is going to come about. So I thought I'd try my hand at a little poem, or a little ditty if you are so inclined to put it to music, about my Magnolia tree. It's a small step to writing. A baby step. A standing on two legs and scared to put that one foot forward step. But it's a step. Thanks for the inspiration Kimba. Mock me and I will smack you.
Magnolia 2012
I catch my breath under an umbrella of pink
as petals drift softly to the ground.
I am protected by gentle blooms
that hold my hopes of spring.
I'm not a literary type, but I like it!
