Cinder-elly

We spent the afternoon in the chilled auditorium of our local high school for their rendition of the play "Cinderella". We happened to run into a good many of our friends who also had the same idea for a Sunday afternoon. The kids had a lot of fun and the play was great (especially the costumes...shout out to dear sister who was in charge of them).
Then after returning our van, good pals Martin and Kim jumped to their hearts' content on our neighbor's trampoline. We had flashbacks to elementary school gym class where we bounced sans safety nets. We were so bad a** back then.

Aside from the water pouring down our family room wall from our so called plumber repaired bathtub drain, it was a super fun Sunday.

Blooms A' Plenty

Our Magnolia is blooming vibrantly and much to the delight of the local bees. They are enjoying the feast of luscious pink flowers that are covering the tree right now. Typically a late frost will kill half of the flowers so we are super excited that our 80 degree March weather has been keeping the frost at bay.

I spend most of my days with my dear writer friend, Kim, who encouraged me to start this blog. Since I have done little creative writing in my time, I am intrigued by this idea that you start to write and the story just evolves and you don't necessarily know where it is going or what is going to come about. So I thought I'd try my hand at a little poem, or a little ditty if you are so inclined to put it to music, about my Magnolia tree. It's a small step to writing. A baby step. A standing on two legs and scared to put that one foot forward step. But it's a step. Thanks for the inspiration Kimba. Mock me and I will smack you.

Magnolia 2012
I catch my breath under an umbrella of pink
as petals drift softly to the ground.
I am protected by gentle blooms
that hold my hopes of spring.

Confession

Hello. My name is Sally. It has been 8 days since my last post.

Not sure what is going on with me. Seems there is no time to thought process, blog, sew, read, craft, etc. etc. And therefore I feel like I am going through life doing nothing well.

Celebrated my Mom's birthday with family and that was lovely. Sometimes my large family is a little daunting to me. Not sure where I fit in and all. But this was grand. It was a gorgeous day and my Mom seemed to flourish being surrounded by family. Even three of her nieces traveled in...2 from Michigan and 1 from California. Also, brother and family from Massachusetts and sister from Wisconsin.

We shared favorite memories of Mom. One was that they had never heard my Mom raise her voice. Throughout the course of the day with three boys I am thinking that that must skip a generation. ha ha. Also, my brother shared the story of my Mom and Dad purchasing their first car and leaving it parked on the driveway because there wasn't a bridge across the creek. Apparently it flooded in the night and moved the car into the fields. The car was taken in town to the local Buick dealer and they removed the parts from the car and spread them around the garage to dry and fix. Apparently the garage was located in a flood plain as well because it proceeded to flood the new car a second time.

We sat around and listened to my niece, her boyfriend, my brother and nephew play guitar and sing a few songs. She blew out the candles in one full swoop and we munched on homemade carrot cake and Penn State Creamery ice cream. My sister exclaimed and I agree, "It was such a great day I wish we could do it all over again."

My mom shares her birthday with my friend Nancy. We gave John and family flowers knowing that it would be an emotional day for them. I pictured Nancy thriving in the sunshine of the day. She would have loved to see the spring flowers blooming and the robin's nest being built in the tree in her front yard.

There is an African Violet perched on my kitchen window that loves the warmth and glow of the evening sun. It has white flowers yet there is one white flower with purple edges. I asked Kim if she had ever seen a white flower suddenly have one purple flower in the middle. She replied, "Maybe that's Nancy sending you that flower from heaven."If so, thanks Nancy and Happy birthday.

Science Matters

We had the day off from school and no plans. Thankfully we received a note from a friend generously offering up 5 tickets for our family to join them at the Science Center in Pittsburgh. It was a lovely day with no crowds and science out the wazoo! Thanks Trish! (Sorry L seems to have eluded my camera all day.)
